I want NPP’s victory in 2016 – Kufuor

John Agyekum KufuorFormer President John Agyekum Kufuor has stated that his heart’s desire is to see his beloved New Patriotic Party (NPP) emerge victorious in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.

He said he would be the happiest man on earth if the NPP was able to win the impending elections and implement pragmatic programs to enhance Ghana’s growth and improve the living conditions of the citizenry.

Mr. Kufuor stated that his silence in recent times doesn’t mean that he had abandoned the NPP, especially as the national polls gradually draw closer, stressing that he is contributing his quota towards the party’s victory.

According him, he would clock 78 years in December this year, and that the advancement in age, with its attendant health issues, had contributed to his inactivity regarding the NPP’s campaign ahead of the polls.

Mr. Kufuor however, stated that even though he had not been in the frontline of the NPP campaign lately, he was aware of the campaign plans of the party and so he was contributing his quota in terms of advice and strategy.

Frank Agyekum, spokesperson for Mr. Kufuor, who made these known during an interview on Hello FM in Kumasi, insisted that the ex-Ghanaian leader was extremely confident that the NPP would win the November elections.

He flatly debunked claims that Mr. Kufuor’s absence in the NPP’s campaign meant that he (Kufuor) had turned his back at the party.

The ex-president explained that he was operated upon by medical doctors about three years ago, and since then he had been walking with the aid of a walking stick, making his active involvement in the campaign quite impossible.

According to him, medical doctors had even advised him not to sit down for more than six hours, adding that his lifestyle, especially with regards to travelling and physical activities, had changed based on the advice.

Mr. Kufuor stated that he would still continue to offer advice and wise counseling to the NPP leadership so that it would properly strategize to win the polls, asserting that at the appropriate time he would join the campaign trail.
